FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Where are you located?
I provide virtual therapy to clients across New York State, including New York City (The Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn), Nassau County, and areas throughout the Hudson Valley. This includes both the Lower Hudson Valley (Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties) and the Upper Hudson Valley (Greene, Columbia, Albany, and Rensselaer counties).
  • How long is each session?
    50-55 minutes
  • What does out-of-network mean?
Out-of-network" means I’m not on your insurance company’s list of in-network providers. But depending on your plan, you might still be able to get reimbursed for the full session or part of the the cost of sessions. Depending on your plan you may get reimbursed (often up to 80%). If you do have those benefits, I am happy to submit superbills (detailed invoice receipts) to you as frequently as you need. I also partner with a platform called Mentaya that will submit the claims for you at a 5% of the session fee if you don’t want to deal with it yourself. If that is of interest to you, please let me know during our free 15 minute consultation call.
  • How often would we meet for therapy?
In order for therapy to be effective and for us to work on your goals thoroughly, therapy requires a consistent frequency and commitment. I recommend and will ask for us to start weekly. After therapy goals have been met, we can drop in frequency over time to bi-weekly sessions as appropriate, and continue to decrease frequency as needed.
  • What if I don’t know what to talk about in therapy?
That’s completely okay! You don’t have to come into therapy with everything figured out or a list of things to talk about. Sometimes, just showing up is enough. If you’re unsure where to start, I’ll help guide the conversation by asking questions, exploring what’s been on your mind, or simply checking in on how you’ve been feeling. Therapy isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about creating space to process, reflect, and discover what’s important to you at your own pace. Some sessions might feel more structured, while others might be more open-ended, and that’s perfectly normal. No matter where you are in your journey, we’ll navigate it together.
  • How does online therapy work?
I will create a portal for you through my HIPAA compliant system, TherapyPortal. From there, you will be able to access our video sessions, paperwork, and scheduling. Sessions are 50-55 minutes long, however please feel free to reach out and discuss additional lengths. I offer mini intensives if you would like longer sessions.
  • What happens if I realize we aren't a good match and I’d like to work with someone else?
That's okay! It’s really important that you feel comfortable with your therapist, and I understand that not every therapist-client relationship is the right fit. If you ever feel that we’re not a good match, please let me know and I can help you find someone who might be a better fit for your needs. Therapy is most effective when you feel understood and supported, so I’m here to ensure you get the support you desire and need, whether it's with me or with another professional

Sessions typically last around 50-55 minutes, and what we we talk about can vary depending on your goals. Some people focus on specific topics, while others explore deeper patters in their lives. In couples counseling, you can expect a supportive and safe space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences together. It’s a place to be heard without judgment and to learn how to communicate more openly and effectively with each other. The first session involves meeting with all partners for the initial consultation, followed by an individual meeting with each of the partners for individual assessment, and then reconvening all together again. From time to time, Amanda may suggest meeting individually during the course of your couple’s counseling. Any individual meetings regarding your couple’s work would be at a rate of $200 per session. • How long do I need to be in therapy?
It depends on your goals, what you're working on, and how things progress over time. Some people come to therapy with a specific issue they want to work through and may only need a few months. Others might want ongoing support for deeper or more complex concerns, and they stay in therapy longer. I usually work long term since my specialties require it, so the therapy process can last anywhere from 3-6 months to many years and ongoing! However, if you are looking for shorter term work I'm happy to accommodate if appropriate.
